The Church on North Grand, Springfield Southern Baptist Church, has been serving Christ and His people for over seventy-two years in the Greater Springfield Area. In addition to serving the whole of the metro Springfield area, we are focused on serving the Enos Park, Lincoln Park, and Oak Ridge communities which surround the location we meet at 225 N. Grand Ave., East, Springfield, IL 62702.
On any given Sunday we have individuals and families attending our church from down the street as well as from throughout a three-county area. They come because of the excellent worship, welcoming fellowship, and our desire to serve those who are in need physically and spiritually.
We would love to have you and your family check us out online or better yet, come be our guest this Sunday. We think you will agree that it’s the place where you are somebody and Jesus Christ is Lord. Please make plans to make The Church on North Grand, Springfield Southern Baptist Church, a part of your family’s worship plans today.
God bless you!
Our Focus
Springfield Southern strives to encourage, support and offer spiritual guidance to the young families of the Springfield community.
Our Values
Families
We place a lot of importance on encouraging and strengthening the family, realizing that families come in many shapes and sizes. We want to work with each family to help nurture a healthy, Christian home.
Global Awareness
As a Southern Baptist church, we partner with over 40,000 other churches across the world. This partnership allows us to support missionaries, train ministers, feed the poor, and provide shelter for the homeless and medical attention to the sick. Our reach goes well beyond our walls.
Prayer
The power of prayer permeates all that we are, in the good times and bad. Prayer allows us to exercise our faith and helps us to be in the center of God’s will. We value all kinds of prayer, including adoration, confession, petition, intercession and thanksgiving.
Stewardship
We are motivated to give because God has richly blessed us. As crazy as it may sound, we enjoy giving. We strive to give at least ten percent of our income back to God. Our stewardship is not limited to money; we seek to use all of our resources in a manner that pleases God. This includes our time, talents, gifts, and intellect.
Spiritual Gifts
We believe that God has gifted every Christian with certain abilities to be used to further the work of the church. When the church harnesses these abilities the church is strengthened. Every Christian is energized and fulfilled through the use of his or her gifts.
Excellence
We seek to do the best we can with the resources which God has given us. For us, it is a matter of giving our best to God.
Our Purpose
We joyfully celebrate Jesus Christ as a connected community of faith. We are committed to growing in our faith, contagiously sharing the good news of Christ, and demonstrating His compassion.
Celebrative Community
Our worship is celebrative. We relish opportunities to offer our praise to God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Along with the celebrative quality of worship, our worship is balanced with the elements of reflection, reverence and wonder.
Connected Community
We are more than a collection of individuals, we are a Christ-centered community of faith. We welcome the opportunity to experience wholeness and express love in our connection with fellow believers.
Committed Community
Acknowledging the Lordship of Jesus Christ, we are committed to growing and nurturing our faith in Him. We strive to be Christ-like and authentic Christians. We never assume that spiritual growth happens without commitment and effort.
Contagious Community
We are eager to live out and share our faith in a way that is contagious. We encourage every believer to identify his or her particular style of sharing Christ to use it accordingly.
Compassionate Community
We seek out opportunities to compassionately serve others. Our ministry of compassion and social concern is demonstrated locally and globally. We minister on behalf of the grace of Jesus Christ.
